Το Siri και οι ανταγωνιστές!

Το τελευταίο μοντέλο iPhone που κυκλοφόρησε η εταιρεία από το Cupertino, ενσωμάτωσε ένα νέο για το iOS χαρακτηριστικό, το οποίο δεν είναι άλλο από το Siri. H υλοποίησή του όμως έχει κάποιους περιορισμούς, τόσο στο hardware καθώς είναι διαθέσιμο μόνο για το iPhone 4S, όσο και στο softwarwe μιας και δεν είναι διαθέσιμες παντού, όλες οι πληροφορίες που μπορεί να προσφέρει.

Αυτό διαπίστωσαν διάφοροι κατασκευαστές λογισμικού και ετοίμασαν τις δικές τους υλοποιήσεις. Μία από αυτές είναι το Evi, για το οποίο σας είχαμε ενημερώσει εδώ και αρκετό καιρό.

Πρόσφατα όμως είδαν το φως δημοσιεύματα, το οποία έκαναν λόγο για μια προσέγγιση των κατασκευαστών του Evi από την Apple, με στόχο την τροποποίηση της εφαρμογής ώστε να μην «κατέβει» από το AppStore – αν και αυτή ήταν η αρχική πρόθεσή της Apple:

On Friday evening True Knowledge had a call from Apple representative Richard Chipman. (If you Google Richard Chipman’s name you’ll find he is also the Apple rep that does the controversial calls about apps).

He told True Knowledge that Apple was “going to pull Evi from the appstore” as it was similar to Siri.

The rule being cited is number 8.3 in the App stro T&Cs” “Apps which appear confusingly similar to an existing Apple product or advertising theme will be rejected”.

We found that your app does not comply with the Guidelines for Using Apple’s Trademarks and Copyrights, as required by the App Store Review Guidelines.

Apps that relate to Siri are not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines as Siri is an Apple product, and therefore covered by our Trademarks and Copyrights guidelines.

It would be appropriate to revise your app concept, app name, and marketing text to address these trademark issues.

Also, we found that your app includes a feature, or features, that mimic an iOS interface or behavior, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Specifically, the app is too similar to Siri.

It would be appropriate to remove or revise these features to make them distinctly different from the iOS behaviors and interfaces to avoid causing user confusion. While the guideline specifies iPod interfaces, the spirit of the guideline includes all iOS interfaces and behaviors.

Φαίνεται πως η Apple δεν βλέπει με καλό μάτι αυτές τις εφαρμογές και δεν αποκλείεται στο μέλλον να μην είναι διαθέσιμες στο AppStore. Προς το παρόν πάντως, το Evi μπορείτε να το βρείτε εδώ, ενώ αντίστοιχα εδώ θα βρείτε το Voice Ask.
