To Apple Lossless Audio Codec γίνεται open source

Η Apple ανακοίνωσε ότι το φορμάτ ‘Apple Lossless Audio Codec’ που έχει αναπτύξει η ίδια θα διατεθεί ως open source project.

To Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) είναι παρόμοιας φιλοσοφίας με άλλα codecs όπως το FLAC με το οποίο προσφέρεται συμπίεση μουσικών κομματιών χωρίς να υπάρχει μείωση στην ποιότητα. To πλεονέκτημά του, βέβαια, αφορά την πλήρη συμβατότητα του φορμάτ με όλες τις iOS συσκευές και iPod.

The Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) is a lossless audio codec developed by Apple and deployed on all of its platforms and devices for some years now. Αντίθετα, άλλα πιο δημοφιλή φορμάτ όπως το MP3 και AAC προσφέρουν μεν υψηλότερη συμπίεση αλλά χάνεται και η αρχική ποιότητα του κομματιού.

To project έχει δοθεί με την άδεια Apache.
